Spa Race Weekend Recap
Spa Francorchamps was a mixture of challenges and rewarding results. All weekend was strong in terms of progression, learning, and moments of not giving up.
Thursday – Private Testing
The weekend kicked off with a private testing day where we focused on improving the car setup and my driving ahead of Friday’s qualifying. It was a good start getting comfortable with the car again and pushing to find the limits on track.
Friday – Qualifying
I qualified P17 out of a 30-car grid only 1.2 seconds off the pole position. The result was disappointing on my behalf knowing we didn’t extract a strong lap. The focus is to put everything together for the next 3 races ahead.
Saturday – Races 1 & 2
Race 1
Start: P17
Finish: P20
A good start off the line at Lap 1 saw me in a good position for the rest of the race. Unfortunately, on the same lap I was taken out at the last corner sending me to the back of the pack. I never gave up and stayed calm to recover to finish P20.
Race 2
Start: P17
Finish: P16
Throughout the first half of the race I was a mental game and I struggled early on which set me back for the rest of the race. That said, I was in really tight battles holding my own and coming home to finish P16.
Sunday – Race 3
Start: P18
Finish: P7
This race was the turning point. A strong start saw me P16 already. I stay calm and composed to put myself in P11. However, on the last lap I narrowly avoided a huge crash at the Kemmel Straight and crossed the line to finish in P7 scoring my first points in F4.
Overall Reflections
Throughout the weekend, I made a huge step forward on my pace and racecraft. I’m walking away from Spa feeling more confident and more motivated to perform better for the next round at Magny-Cours.
